Privacy Policy

This policy explains what data FIREscape collects and how it is handled. It is written to align with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA), and reflects the same principles required by comparable regimes such as the GDPR.

Your calculator inputs never leave your browser

Every calculation on this site — FIRE projections and historical backtests — runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your age, savings, portfolio, and any other figure you enter is never transmitted to us, never written to a server, and never stored by us in any form. If you close the tab, it is gone.

If you use a share link, your inputs are encoded into the URL itself. Anyone you send that link to can see those values, so treat share links as public.

Email notifications (optional)

You may optionally give us an email address to be notified about significant updates to these tools. This is the only feature that sends anything to a server.

• What we collect: your email address, the date you subscribed, and the wording of the consent you agreed to.
• Why: solely to send the notifications you asked for. We do not use it for marketing, and we do not sell, rent, or share it with third parties.
• Consent: collected via an explicitly unticked checkbox. We never pre-tick it, and we never subscribe you as a side effect of using a calculator.
• Separation: subscriber emails are stored in a separate system and are never linked to calculator inputs — we do not have your calculator inputs to link them to.
• Withdrawing consent: every notification email contains a one-click unsubscribe link. You may also email us to be removed and to have your address deleted.

Analytics

We use Google Analytics (GA4) to understand aggregate, anonymous usage — which pages and calculators are visited, from which countries, on which device types. This helps us decide what to improve. We enable IP anonymisation, and we never send your calculator inputs: only page paths and low-cardinality interaction labels such as "selected a preset" or "switched language".

Analytics runs under Google Consent Mode v2 with all storage denied by default. Until you accept via the cookie banner, no analytics cookies are set and only cookieless, aggregated measurements are sent. If you decline, it stays that way. You can change your mind by clearing this site's storage in your browser. We do not use analytics or advertising to build a profile that identifies you.

Advertising

This site displays third-party advertising to stay free. Ad networks may set cookies or use similar technologies to measure and personalise ads. Where required by law, we ask for your consent first through a consent management platform, and you can decline personalised ads without losing access to any calculator. Ad networks act as independent controllers of any data they collect; please refer to their own privacy policies.

Language preference

Your language choice is reflected in the page URL and is not stored as a cookie or profile. Your light/dark theme preference is stored in your browser's local storage and never sent to us.

Your rights

You may ask us what personal data we hold about you, request a correction, or withdraw your consent to its use. Since the only personal data we ever hold is an email address you volunteered, such requests are straightforward — write to us and we will action them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the revised version will be posted here with an updated date. Material changes affecting email subscribers will also be communicated by email.
